Senior planner Paul Lord, the Planning Department’s Western SoMa Task Force representative, and the Treasure Island planning team, have been recognized by the American Planning Association for their innovative use of an evaluation metric known as the Healthy Development Measurement Tool, which inserts health considerations into land-use proposals.
The HDMT was developed by San Francisco’s Department of Public Health to examine community health objectives and baseline neighborhood conditions, evaluate land-use plans and projects in light of those conditions, and recommend ways to improve baseline conditions.
A presentation titled “Healthy City – an integrated urban design approach for charting a new way for healthy, vibrant communities of tomorrow” has been included in the program for the APA’s 2012 National Planning Conference to be held in Los Angeles, April 14–17, 2012.
