The SoMa Leadership Council is a grassroots, nonpartisan alliance of community activists from all over South of Market. It’s been in existence since 2001 and has gained credibility throughout the city by virtue of its broad-based membership and consensus building processes. We focus on good planning and good government.
The SoMa Leadership Council played a significant role in resolving the issues surrounding live/work development, was instrumental in the formation of the San Francisco Entertainment Commission, has supported numerous quality of life initiatives and out of frustration with the city’s own planning efforts and the effects they were having on South of Market wrote the legislation that created the Western SoMa Citizens Planning Task Force.
The SoMa Leadership Council provides a gathering place for important discussions about the future of South of Market. Subscribe to this site to stay informed about events of interest to the community. Everyone is welcome to participate. Membership is open to everyone interested in helping to ensure that South of Market remains a compassionate, diverse, vibrant and complete neighborhood.
The founding Chair of the SoMa Leadership Council, Jim Meko, passed away on August 3, 2015. Jim’s close friends and fellow community activists have been meeting to figure out how to try to keep the South of Market community united and engaged via the SoMa Leadership Council. Website postings and e-mails will be resuming soon.
