Mid-Market CAC debated at Board today

The Rules Committee of the Board of Supervisors will take up the issue of appointing a new oversight body to ensure that Twitter and other digital media businesses that are lured to the Mid-Market area by new tax incentives live up their community benefits agreements. Those agreements are yet to be ratified by the Board.

The Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development would rather see those responsibilities passed on to the Mid-Market Project Area Committee, a development-friendly relic of the Redevelopment Agency’s effort that was last elected in 1997.

Supervisor Jane Kim introduced legislation that would create a new body of representative stakeholders. The SoMa Leadership Council voted to support Kim’s proposal. The position was explained in this press release which was issued last week.
