Supervisor Jane Kim introduced a Resolution at the Board of Supervisors yesterday affirming the Community Stabilization Policy that was adopted by the Western SoMa Citizens Planning Task Force last year. The Stabilization Policy evaluates the existing conditions and sets forth metrics for the preservation of the historic balance of housing affordability and neighborhood land uses that are proposed for use by the Planning Commission in evaluating project approvals and conditional uses. 4 alarm fire devastates Park Hotel
The San Francisco Fire Department called a fourth alarm shortly before 7:00 tonight as flames continued to burn out of control at the Park Hotel, a three story single room occupancy residential hotel on Folsom Street between 6th and 7th Streets. Neighbors have been angrily shouting at firefighters, urging them to fight the flames more aggressively. Strong winds and high temperatures have forced fire fighters away from the building, which appears to be a total loss.

SoMa Leadership Council urges oversight of Twitter deal
On Wednesday, April 20, 2011, the SoMa Leadership Council voted to support efforts to create an independent Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) to oversee the implementation of the Community Benefits Agreement that is required of Twitter and other high tech businesses seeking to take advantage of the tax exemption recently granted by the Board of Supervisors. An invitation to be part of the future of Folsom Street
There has been talk of Folsom Street becoming a boulevard for at least ten years. Early in his first term of office, Supervisor Chris Daly asked the San Francisco County Transportation Authority to do an initial study of possible options (see their Strategic Analysis Report on the Feasibility of Redesigning Folsom Street) and the legislation that created the Western SoMa Citizens Planning Task Force set forth the goal of creating a two-way Folsom Street corridor as one of the main deliverables of the community plan it was to produce.
