Change can be good, bad or ugly. Prior posts here discussed how the nightclub industry in Western SOMA is trying to eviscerate the community based rezoning that attempts to keep a diverse mix of land use.
"...progressives worry that all of the city’s liberal bastions might be concentrated into District 6 (South of Market/Tenderloin), District 9 (the Mission/Bernal) and District 5 (Haight/Western Addition). This could result in a permanent 8-3 fix for downtown and business interests."

Humm...the Boogeyman of "downtown and business interests" trotted out again??

The most immediate threat to the character and future of D6 SOMA are:

A) The monster residential towers (negotiated by a prior progressive supervisor) that have since been blessed by a rather progressive Planning Commission. The BOS somehow believe that density (without a functioning public transit system) is a good thing, and that residential towers without parking will somehow mean that residents will not own cars which will likely not be the case.

B) Special interests who are picking apart the Western SOMA plan, including but not limited to big entertainment that is eating up land use to serve out of town kids coming here to act badly, and to line their own pocket. Entertainment, they say, employees people yet only about 4% of all entertainment economic benefit (as recently reported) is attributed to DJ type club venues.

Oh yes right...we are just trying to "kill fun" isn't that the retort?

South of Market literally means SOUTH of Market. Your map takes a big swath out of SOMA and puts it into D-3, and adds big chunks into D-6 from D-5 (Tenderloin) D-8-Hayes Valley and D-9 (Mission)...all to push your political agenda, with total disregard to the actual neighborhood boundaries by actual definition. MARKET STREET is what defines SOMA. If in fact the demographics are shifting somewhat in D-6, you need to accept that and leave the natural borders of the district alone, not arbitrarily change them to fit what you want to serve your political power. This is gerrymandering at its worst. Progressives will still have plenty of clout without putting anything that is SOUTH of MARKET into any other district. I hope the Task Force rejects your map.

I'm a Soma resident who lives on Folsom St. I just recently became aware of the SFPark 12th & Folsom Parking Management Plan, scheduled, as I understand, for April. My husband & I have lived in this area for over 5 years (and in another area of Soma before that for 7). We love living in this area because it is possible to do so much without a car, and do as much as possible on foot or other means. We fully support making the area more pedestrian and bike friendly. My husband (an avid cyclist) and I are both members of the SF Bike Coalition. However, we do each own a car and park on the streets in the area. If you install meters where residents park, you're discouraging people from leaving their car at home and encouraging them to drive everywhere. This will be the effect. Do we expect free parking? No, but let's be fair and get revenue from residents through sticker permits, not from meters and citations. Not all residents of Soma live in new live-work lofts with parking or garages. Many residents are modest income and will not be thrilled to be forced to pay for a residential permit. I think this would be a great improvement to the plan to indiscriminately blanket the area with parking meters. This plan needs to recognize and accommodate the parking needs of Soma residents, and prioritize their need for the shrinking parking available ahead of people who work in the area, shoppers and businesses. Please help get the word out to residents of the area so that they can provide their input, since I'm sure many aren't even aware of the changes being proposed. Soma residents need your assistance in making our voices heard. Thanks!

We need to manage parking better, but there should be a way for residents and workers to park without having to worry about how much it's going to cost. What about parking permits for residents and people who work in the area? Tourists would pay meter rates and locals could pay a nominal fee for a parking sticker.

Someone pointed out that no one parks at the metered spots on Townsend. They should think about ways to offer all-day parking for Caltrain commuters at a reasonable rate.
